Attributes of an Operations Director
The Operations Director will oversee an organisation’s physical and commercial workings, ensuring resources, property and supply chain are functioning effectively and in line with company strategy and financial budgets. Operations Director jobs are found in manufacturing, retail, hospitality, banking administration, local government and construction to name a few areas, and individuals in the role must possess in-depth experience of how their particular sector runs. They will lead, manage and motivate teams - be that across store operations, distribution sites, or pharmaceutical plants etc. Key attributes would be past commercial success in managing multi-million pound budgets, and completing major operational projects, such as successfully overseeing the opening a new chain of restaurants.
Key Responsibilities of an Operations Director
Operations Directors are responsible for making things happen on the front line, and ensuring that operational plans are brought to life in a timely fashion. Budgeting, planning and negotiating are major parts of the job. Operations Directors will also spend time establishing and maintaining systems for measuring aspects of operations, feeding back progress to the Board, and suggesting ways to improve performance. If a logistics operation is failing to meet customer delivery times it will fall to the Operations Director to find a solution. Ops Directors also ensure activities meet with organisational requirements such as quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care.
Inside the Job

For doing this highly responsible job, Operations Directors are likely to earn salaries of £50k to £90k depending on the size of the business.
