Operations

Our Operations team collects, processes and delivers over 80 million items to 27 million addresses every day. Because the mail never stops, nor does our operations team, working round the clock to deliver to our customers.

As a graduate in this area, you’ll face demanding challenges most graduates don’t encounter until far later in their careers. For example, in your first placement (you’ll have up to three over the 12-18 month programme), you’ll find yourself managing a team of 15-20 people. That could be as a Work Area Manager in a mail centre or Delivery Manager in a delivery office. As a proving ground, it’s unrivalled and within seven years you could be managing Royal Mail Operations as part of an Area Management Team.

Logistics

Royal Mail Logistics is home to one of the biggest heavy goods fleets in the UK, and is responsible for the long distance movement of letters, parcels and packets throughout the entire country.  In addition, it also manages several warehouses where bulk mail and packets are sorted.

As a graduate in this area, you’ll be responsible for managing major change in a heavily unionised environment at the same time as dealing with everyday distribution challenges such as saving costs, improving our impact on the environment and optimising routes.

What you’ll need

Back a 2:2 degree or above with drive, energy and resilience and you’ll be off to a good start. The ability to motivate and inspire a team is also essential and we’re looking for a flexible attitude to relocation. All of which should be complemented by the right to work in the UK for at least 3 years from the programme start date.

The rewards
