Investment consulting

Investment analyst

From producing investment performance reports to drafting investment strategies or assisting with fund manager selection, there’s simply no other role offering as much exposure to the world of investment consulting. Working alongside an experienced team, you will provide advice to our clients on the best methods for structuring and investing their assets. There are a number of specialist teams within investment consulting, such as our financial strategy group, investment transitions (Mercer Sentinel™), and performance reporting. You’ll have the scope to drive your career in the direction that interests you, including managing your own portfolio of clients or becoming a business leader.

You will receive support to study for the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and either the Actuarial or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification.

Retirement, risk and finance consulting

Actuarial Trainee

 As an actuarial trainee, you will be providing advice and solutions to a diverse range of clients, addressing the full range of issues affecting corporate pension plans and trustees. You’ll start your career getting to grips with the complexities of calculating pension liabilities and will soon be comfortable performing complex analysis on membership data and drafting communications to clients. As your confidence and knowledge develop, you will become increasingly client-focused, advising on the design, funding and management of all types of retirement plans.

Within retirement, risk and finance consulting, there are a number of specialist areas that offer exciting career options, including governance and operations, scheme strategy and design, scheme buyouts, mergers and acquisitions and defined contribution schemes. A career in retirement, risk and finance will give you plenty of scope for development, whether you choose to become a lead consultant, head of a team or a technical specialist
We will support your study towards the Actuarial qualification.

Retirement analyst

Based within our Retirement Service Centre in Belfast, you’ll develop unbeatable analytical skills by using our advanced software to perform complex calculations and provide accurate pension scheme valuation data. It’s a statutory requirement for all pension schemes to be valued regularly, so you’ll be working as part of a busy team on projects which will include analysing and summarising membership data, preparing data for use in pension valuation calculations and performing calculations. Your future career options include becoming an actuary, a client team leader or a project manager.

For all of these roles, you will need at least 320 UCAS points, including a grade B or above in A-level Mathematics and a 2:1 Honours degree in a numerate or semi numerate degree discipline (or an equivalent qualification).
