NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly serves a population of over 540,000 covering the spectacular geography of the south west peninsula. With a budget in excess of £800m, the organisation faces unique health challenges posed by the diverse health needs of the community. Covering market towns, seaside resorts and rural settings and with a population that rises significantly during the summer tourist months, the organisation is host to a number of national pilots and has won a range of awards for its innovative programmes; it has also recently been shortlisted for the prestigious Health Service Journal ‘PCT of the Year’ award. As the NHS now moves into a period of unprecedented challenge and ever increasing focus on raising the quality and effectiveness of patient care, NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly is seeking to appoint a new Chief Executive with the passion, ambition, vision and drive to deliver the very best outcomes for the communities it serves.

The Role:

• Provide visionary leadership to the PCT and across the wider health economy, driving performance improvement and the achievement of higher standards of care.

• Take forward the PCT’s strategic development framework to deliver health improvement, address health inequalities and enable the PCT to realise its ambitions of being a world class commissioner.

• Work with a wide range of external partners including the provider Trusts, local government agencies, the Strategic Health Authority and patients and the wider public.

The Candidate:

• Exceptional track-record of senior leadership at Board level within a similarly complex environment.

• Expertise in driving through major programmes of change working in partnership with a range of agencies with the determination to achieve excellent outcomes for patients together. Demonstrable experience of operating in a fast paced political environment with an exceptionally strong stakeholder voice.

• Excellent relationship builder with a visionary and entrepreneurial approach and the capability to influence and persuade at all levels; resilient, focused, driven and determined, able to operate effectively within a politically complex public environment.
