IT Application Consultant - How does a package of £46K in 6 months time sound?, Customer Systems plc

The Company

Customer Systems is a highly successful IT consulting firm, implementing the leading software packages in the areas of customer relationship management (CRM) and analytics. We are based in Chertsey in Surrey, and have recently opened an office in New Jersey. Please note that we recruit all year round and always have current vacancies.

The Role

What we deliver is critical to our customers' businesses and our consultants experience a great deal of responsibility at a very early stage in their careers. Our consultants are initially trained in the suite of application software products in which we specialise. They then work on customers' sites anywhere in Europe, and occasionally further afield. The services we provide include :

• Analysis of customer business requirements
• Customisation of packaged application software to fit those requirements
• Development of bespoke software for additional requirements
• Training of end users and of other consultants

Each implementation project has a consulting team which can range in size from 1 to 4 people, and projects generally last from 1 to 6 months.

The Rewards

If you join as a new or recent graduate, we start you on a package of £33k comprising a basic salary of £28k and a car allowance of £5,040 (or you can opt for a company car instead).

Within 6 months, assuming normal progress, you should be on a basic of at least £34k, plus a bonus of about £5,300, plus either a car allowance of £5,040 or a company car. On top of this, we make a contribution of up to 5% of basic salary on a matching basis into your own personal pension scheme. This makes a total package of at least £46k, and there is also a discretionary Christmas bonus in most years.

When you are on an assignment some distance from the office, then all accommodation and subsistence costs are covered. Most long-distance assignments allow you to get back every weekend.

Relocation allowances are available for people moving into the area.

Note that car allowance is paid conditional upon you providing and maintaining a car to business standards.

The Requirements

To be right for this role you will need

• Three serious A-Levels at grade A or B
• A degree from a high-quality institution in a numerate discipline - normally at 2:1 or above.
• Undergraduate applicants should have a reasonable expectation of a 2:1 or above.
• Our existing consultants include graduates in maths, physics, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical/electronic engineering, chemical engineering, aeronautical engineering, business studies/management science/operational research.
• Around half of our consultants have a masterate or a doctorate.
• Good programming skills, although it is not necessary to have done a huge amount of programming
• The presentability, articulacy and presence for customer and prospect contact
• Enthusiasm, determination and a sense of "mission"
• Self-reliance and willingness to travel during the working week
• Any sort of professional work experience e.g. an industrial placement is a distinct advantage.
• You don't have to join us direct from university. We also look at people already in work, who want to make a change. Our requirements, however, are the same.

• We are happy to apply for work permits for non-residents
• We are happy to take people making use of the "Post-Study-Work" or IGS schemes
• We do internships (but for a minimum of 10 months)
• We are very happy with any numerate or scientific degree - not just computer science
• We really do give you a lot of responsibility at a very early stage of your career

NB We are also prepared to consider undergraduates and "gap year" students for industrial placements with us, but these placements must be for a minimum of 10 months. Requirements are similar to those for graduate trainees.
