CIPFA employers include some of the leading organisations in the UK, covering all sectors.
There are many public sector employers currently looking to recruit graduates to study for the CIPFA qualification, such as the Audit Commission, Department for Work and Pensions, NHS, Society of London Treasurers' Scheme and the Metropolitan Police.
Among the private companies training for CIPFA are global firms such as KPMG, PKF, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Grant Thornton.
CIPFA is in close contact with these employers and many others and is constantly updating the trainee vacancies website. The site provides information including, job descriptions, entry requirements and a named employer contact.
Career Prospects
Many CIPFA students find their career progresses very quickly. With their new skills, many are promoted before they qualify and on completion go onto greater and bigger things. The majority of finance directors in local government and the NHS are CIPFA members because the qualification has given them the skills and insights to reach the very top.
A CIPFA student can earn over £25,000 as a Trainee Accountant. As a CPFA, members can expect over £40,000 as a Senior Auditor, £50,000 and more as a divisional Finance Manager, and well in excess of £100,000 at Director or Chief Executive level.
Many employers offer significant support for students whilst they are studying, seeing it as valuable training for their employees’ career development. It is common to offer time off to study and cover some if not all of the costs of the qualification.
"The CIPFA professional qualification has a broader scope than just dealing with accounts – as such, we believe that CIPFA qualified accountants have better skills in public sector financial management and strategic financial planning."
