Head of Operations

Operational Leadership of a member-led and member-driven organisation

Blackpool • To £75k + car + package

Established in 1974, the FSB is now recognised as the UK’s leading representative body, promoting and protecting the interests of the self-employed and small business owners. Delivering a wide range of high quality and excellent value business services to its 215,000 members, it also has a high profile lobbying arm which represents the FSB’s viewpoint to government, Whitehall and the EU.

The Challenge:

• Reporting to the Executive Board, to provide leadership and guidance to a motivated and committed 7-strong Senior Management Team.

• To develop highly effective working relationships with the functional directors and other Executive Board members.

• To harness the energies of the Senior Management Team, ensuring that it is working towards organisational objectives and to make certain that all FSB staff operate to their full potential for the overall benefit of the FSB.

• To formulate and advise the Executive Board on FSB operational strategy, directing its implementation through the Senior Management Team. To ensure that all departments are resourced appropriately, allowing them to deliver the highest levels of service to the membership.

• To appreciate the special relationship that exists between volunteer activists and full time employees.

The Candidate:

• Must have successfully operated at a senior management level with a track record of leading strong and effective teams. Educated to degree level, a Post Graduate Management qualification, MBA or equivalent would be beneficial.

• Must have the ability to demonstrate how you have achieved business objectives through your influential rather than directive management style.

• You will have experience of working at a senior level within a commercial environment and will have developed a high degree of business and financial acumen.

• An excellent relationship-builder at all levels, you will have held accountability for all major functions and will have the intellectual capacity required to contribute to the formulation of strategy.
