Non-Executive Directors (2 roles)
We are seeking two individuals with a strong personal commitment to, or interest in, social and welfare issues. The director who chairs the Audit Committee will be expected to have a financial background. The background of the other director is much more open and could lie in IT transformational change, operational or customer service delivery, academia, voluntary or not-for-profit sectors.
Duties as a non-executive director will require some 20 days annually, including time to read papers in preparation for meetings and to undertake other activities. The Chair of the Audit Committee will be required for a further 8 days for Departmental Audit Committee meetings. Non-executive directors will be paid at the rate of £1,000 per day.
The Pension, Disability and Carers Service
The Pension, Disability and Carers Service (PDCS) is an executive agency of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The customer base includes current and future pensioners, disabled children and adults and their carers. We administer all pensions, disability and carers benefits to the most vulnerable in our society. With over 16,500 staff who process 10,500 new claims every day, we pay around £85 billion annually in benefits and entitlements to nearly 15 million customers.
The Board
The PDCS Board is an advisory body within the DWP and its purpose is to support the Chief Executive and Executive management team in discharging their responsibilities. The Board is comprised of external non-executive directors, the PDCS Chief Executive plus 5 executive directors. The non-executive directors, who are independently appointed to the Board, provide objectivity coupled with knowledge and experience gained from senior roles in a wide range of external organisations.
