Key Responsibilities of a Commercial Director
The Commercial Director will sit on the Board and lead a team of sales and finance professionals. The job entails compiling budgets and forecasts, reporting to the CEO on business performance, and shaping and implementing strategic activities, such as growth into international markets, or new product development. Commercial Directors tend to require full understanding of a company’s market position, consumer trends, and competitors’ positioning, so analysing market data is a major part of the job. He or she may have to establish KPI systems (Key Performance Indicators) for measuring different aspects of an organisations performance.

Commercial Directors are typically ambitious, strategic thinkers, and determined to proactively push the business forward. They need to be naturally good at networking, with excellent business contacts, and hungry for new ways to improve the business. Often the role is client-facing, so a skilled communicator who can handle multiple client accounts will do well. Dynamic leadership, management and team building skills will be essential.
