Chief Executive Jobs
Attributes of a Chief Executive
Chief Executives jobs are only landed by the very cream of the crop. As the highest-ranking administrator in a business, local authority, charity or organisation, the Chief Executive is running the entire show. He or she will require the very best people management skills, have an astute business mind, work tirelessly with vision and passion, and be a charismatic ambassador for the organisation. A Chief Executive will focus on assigning responsibilities clearly to senior management and overseeing the financial health and good reputation of the organisation. Chief Executives today must also drive their organisation towards growth and long-term prosperity, whilst adhering to realistic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) assurances.
Key Responsibilities of a Chief Executive
A key role of the Chief Executive is to report to the company Board of Directors regularly, providing departmental directors with timely, quality information on how commercial, staffing, cultural and strategic areas of the business are progressing. He or she must also keep the Chairman up to date with Board-level developments.
Inside the Job
The Chief Executive, sometimes called the Chief Executive Officer or CEO, will be working closely with his or her subordinate colleagues on the Board, typically including a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or Finance Director, Chief Operating Officer (COO), IT Director or Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Marketing, HR and Communications Directors. Chief Executive roles are often filled from within organisations so that individuals bring several years’ experience of a particular organisation and industry to the table. Very bright junior managers can be groomed for the top job as part of a company’s succession planning, for example. That said, key Chief Executive positions are sometimes filled with high profile leaders who have succeeded in an entirely different corporate sector, but have demonstrated the flair, charisma and commercial nous to lead and accomplish in any field.
